Annual AACS Creative Writing Contest
This annual contest offers students a great opportunity to hone their creative writing skills and compete with other students in Indiana and nationally. It is open to students in all IACS member schools and is separate from the spring FABA competitions.
Students may enter one of two divisions based on the student's current grade:
Winners for the state competition are announced by email and are automatically entered in the national competition. A complete list of winners for the most recent state and national competitions are posted on the AACS website.
Students may enter one of two divisions based on the student's current grade:
- Elementary Division, grades 4-6
- Junior High Division, grades 7-8

INDIANA PROCEDURES (this information is emailed to member schools)
Please note that this contest is separate from the state FABA competition. Following are the instructions for the Indiana contest:
Remember, if this is a class project or if there are multiple entries from your school in each of the two divisions, the school must do its own judging to submit only ONE entry per category for state judging.
- A student may enter only one category – either short story or poetry, not both.
- A school may submit a maximum of 4 entries for state judging – 1 elementary short story, 1 elementary poetry, 1 junior high short story, 1 junior high poetry
- Entries may be handwritten or electronically generated.
- Handwritten entries must be postmarked by Dec 12 to 8140 Union Chapel Road, Indianapolis, IN 46240.
- Electronic entries must be emailed by Dec 12 to [email protected] and MUST be in Microsoft Word document format.
- Please include with each entry ONE judging form that includes the level, student name, school name, city, state and grade.
